What is Naked Dog Training?

Our unique approach to dog training enables your dog to be free-spirited, yet well mannered, enjoy off-leash freedom, yet respond instantly to commands regardless of the situation
A synergistic combination of teaching a common language, positions, amplified markers, motivational learning and remote training.
A Brief Overview of Naked Dog Training
All of our dog training programs are focused on outcomes. Functional outcomes. At the same time we are pretty philosophical about our approach to training. We believe it is our attention to not only producing functional results, but how to accomplish those outcomes, that has brought us clients from throughout the United States and abroad.

A little bit about our philosophy. It’s warm and fuzzy but not just the “we love dogs” warm and fuzzy. It’s a little more heavy, deep and real. While none of our staff are Buddhists we deeply believe in their principle of “compassion to all sentient beings”. In non-Buddhist terms, compassion for all beings who have an individual experience of life.
Your dog’s experience of life is different than any other dog's. His or her experience changes day by day, and even moment by moment. We believe if you are going to bring someone, like a trainer, into your dog’s life in a meaningful way, they need to be committed to your dog’s personal experience. At least that is how we see it. That is why how we achieve our outcomes is just as important as the outcomes themselves.

As with most relationships communication is a foundation for success. Unfortunately, at least as far as your dog is concerned, you speak human and they speak dog. This communication gap isn’t necessarily the root source of problems, but it likely plays a part. We solve this issue by teaching a third language we can all understand. That third language serves as a foundation for the rest of our training.

This common language, teaching what we call positions using our own unique form of marker training, positive motivational learning and remote training to mold and maintain behaviors are some of the many aspects to our approach.
The Naked Way

Understanding our end goal for your dog is important. What type of future does it provide. Through all of the training we dog we typically expect to achieve three outcomes: create off-leash control through the use of commands, create impeccable manners through the teaching of long-term rules which are always in effect, and resolve in behavioral issues.

The long-term rules typically include no jumping on furniture, no nipping, chewing or biting, no barking, etc. These rules are non-verbal and always in effect. This creates a wonderfully mannered dog without even needing to use commands. Then for times when control is needed you have commands like heel, sit, down stay and come along with unique exercises like our relaxed heel along with our Mazie command which instructs a dog to remain within a 15 ft radius. These commands are used whenever needed.
This is where our training gets interesting, both for you and your dog. If your dog has impeccable manners, and you can control your dog off-leash anywhere, anytime regardless of the situation, then you have the luxury of not having to be controlling! Your dog can enjoy great freedom because at anytime, if needed, you can recall your dog, or have him or her heel, or down or any one of the many commands your dog will know. For us, your dog enjoying freedom is what he or she was literally - born to do. What we do is coach you into how many non-verbal long-term commands to have, when to use obedience commands, so that you balance control with freedom. That creative balance is what we call "The Naked Way".
